Six Flags shuts area at Magic Mountain before summer rush

The popular family area is being reimagined.

A major shake-up is underway at Six Flags Magic Mountain just weeks before the busy summer season gets into full swing.

The Southern California theme park has unexpectedly closed an entire children's section as crews push ahead with a large-scale transformation project.

Guests arriving at the Valencia attraction will find much of the former Bugs Bunny World off-limits while construction continues behind the scenes.

Why is Six Flags Magic Mountain closing part of the park?

The popular family area is being reimagined as Looney Tunes Land, with several kid-friendly attractions currently unavailable to visitors.

In total, 10 rides and attractions have been taken out of operation during the redevelopment. As a result, families with younger children have noticeably fewer options inside that section of the park.

However, one familiar favorite remains open. Road Runner Express, the area's children's coaster, is still welcoming riders while work continues nearby.

Meanwhile, park officials are encouraging guests to explore other family attractions spread across the resort.

"We welcome guests to enjoy our other family attractions such as Grand American Carousel and Swashbuckler," park officials said in a statement to CW affiliate KTLA.

"And of course, kids of all ages won't want to miss the meet and greets with the lovable Looney Tunes characters who will still be found at the park daily."

When will Looney Tunes Land reopen?

Although the project was originally planned in stages, unexpected setbacks changed those plans.

According to park officials, weather-related delays forced construction teams to accelerate the timeline by closing the entire area at once.

As a result, the transformation is moving forward faster, but guests are still waiting for news on when the revamped land will debut.

For now, Six Flags has not announced an official reopening date.
