Coffee fans, this one's for you — if you skip black coffee because it's too bitter, there's a surprisingly simple fix.

Dr Karan Rajan, a popular TikTok medic, has revealed that the secret to smoother-tasting coffee isn't milk or sugar — it's salt.

"The salt blocks the bitterness receptors on your tongue, making the coffee taste way smoother and requiring less sugar," he said.

Experts at Espresso Works backed the viral trick, explaining that a pinch of salt reduces bitterness, enhances sweetness and even boosts the aroma.

And it's not just about taste — black coffee comes with a host of health perks too.

According to Healthline, drinking it regularly may help lower the risk of type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. It can also support weight management by influencing fat storage and gut health.

One study even found that three to five cups of coffee a day could cut heart disease risk by 15 per cent.

So next time you brew up, skip the sugar and try a tiny pinch of salt instead — your taste buds (and your heart) might just thank you.
