As temperatures begin to climb, one major US city is giving residents a free way to stay cool all summer long.

Portland, Oregon, has officially unveiled its summer schedule for seven outdoor public pools, with free swimming opportunities returning across the city.

The seasonal program kicks off on June 18, when all seven facilities open their gates for summer activities.

However, six of those locations will also offer a weekly free open swim session, making it easier for families to enjoy the water without spending a dime.

Which US pools offer free swim sessions?

Residents in Portland will find complimentary swim times spread throughout the week. Creston Pool will host free swims on Mondays from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Meanwhile, Grant Pool's free session takes place on Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Montavilla Pool will welcome visitors on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Peninsula Pool is offering its free swim slot on Tuesdays from 1 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Elsewhere, Sellwood Pool's free session runs on Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Pier Pool will host its complimentary swims on Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Additionally, families looking to build confidence in the water can take advantage of another no-cost opportunity.

The city's Free Swim Week program will provide a full week of complimentary swim lessons from June 22 through June 26.

As a result, Portland residents will have multiple ways to stay active, beat the summer heat, and enjoy the city's outdoor pools without stretching their budgets.
