Netflix viewers couldn't believe the culinary delights on offer at Hertfordshire's very own 'Million Dollar Buffet' at The Grove.

TV food critic Grace Dent brought worldwide attention to the county's 5-star Chandler's Cross hotel, taking cameras inside The Glasshouse.

The lavish venue's all-you-can-eat buffet certainly went down a treat with viewers on Netflix, originally Channel 5, but what is it really like?

Klutchy.com sent Ross Chapman to check out the luxurious dining experience dubbed one of the world's finest buffets, here's what happened.

The Grove's Glasshouse is not just a feast for the taste buds but a visual delight for the senses. The restaurant's stunning architecture seamlessly blends with the surrounding beauty, creating an ambience that is both elegant and inviting.

The moment we stepped inside, we were captivated by the artistic charm that adorned the walls. The carefully curated art pieces added a touch of sophistication, creating an immersive dining experience that transcended the ordinary.

The warm and friendly atmosphere was like a comforting embrace on Sunday's chilly evening. The staff's genuine warmth and attentiveness added a personal touch to our dining experience. After braving the windy weather, we were met with a heartwarming welcome that instantly made us feel at home.

Sat down in prime position, located between the desserts and main buffet, our journey was not just about the food; it was an immersive experience, thanks to the wonderful staff member, Jacek, who turned an ordinary evening into an extraordinary culinary affair.

Jacek, our expert culinary guide, was a beacon of knowledge and charm. With a smile that could light up the entire room, he patiently walked us through the extensive menu, explaining each dish with passion and flair. He passionately detailed that night's offerings before taking our drinks order, showing us the more than adequate wine list.

Our culinary escapade began with a delightful array of cold meats for starters, featuring an enticing variety of textures and flavours that left us eager for more.

After starters, and a swig of gorgeous Jurancon Moelleux dessert white wine, we went up for our first main plate from the buffet. The spicy sausage packed a punch, the skirt beef steak melted in the mouth, and the roasted carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower cheese provided a symphony of flavours. The dry-aged rare beef, accompanied by rich gravy and a classic Yorkshire pudding, was a testament to the chef's mastery.

Transitioning to the second plate, we indulged in a comforting classic – spaghetti carbonara. The perfectly cooked pasta, adorned with a creamy carbonara sauce, was a testament to the chef's commitment to culinary excellence. Adding to the experience, we got to witness the cook make our dish in an exciting live-action display, making sure to constantly ask us exactly how we wanted it made, an attention to detail worth noting, ensuring the diner gets exactly what they wanted.

The third plate took us on an exotic journey with Asian-inspired delights. The succulent pork, paired with fragrant rice, transported our taste buds to distant lands. The fusion of flavours was a testament to the chef's global culinary prowess. Finishing off this dish with the flavoursome and spicy chicken wings.

We sampled some selections from the vegan section, which was notably smaller than the main buffet, but still had plenty to choose from. Our vegan plate was a celebration of plant-based indulgence. The vegan Wellington and hoisin tofu showcased the chef's dedication to creating dishes that cater to diverse palates. The vegan chocolate cake that followed for dessert was a sweet symphony of indulgence.

As the grand finale approached, we were treated to a spectacular dessert spread. The winter berry cake was a burst of seasonal goodness, the watermelon ricotta added a refreshing twist, and the Turkish delights added a touch of exotic sweetness.

With no pressure at all, our plates were cleared, and we were offered a hot drink to finish our Sunday evening meal. Our experience at The Grove Glasshouse was more than just a meal; it was a culinary journey that tickled our taste buds and left us with a lingering desire for more, not that we could fit it in this time.

With Jacek as our guide and the mastery in the kitchen, The Glasshouse has undoubtedly earned its place as a culinary gem in our hearts. A dining adventure that will be etched in our memories, urging us to return for more exquisite delights.
